Senior citizens can enjoy Valentines Day with these fun filled activities.
One of the most popular senior activities is bingo. Here are a couple variations for Valentines Day.
Use a heart shape to win instead of the traditional rows or four corners. You can also make up your own bingo Valentines Day cards by using the names of famous lovers and couples in each square. Bingo cards have twenty-five squares so make sure you provide more couples than twenty-five so that the cards won't all be the same.
Another idea for homemade bingo cards is to assign an old love song to each square. The caller can make it more interesting by humming or playing the notes of the song. Someone will know the song and call out the name, then everyone will place their chip on the square if it appears on their card.
A really fun and exciting activity is a St. Valentines Day gift auction. What you will need is play money and small, inexpensive gifts wrapped up in festive paper. Give each senior a few thousand dollars in play money and have the wrapped gifts displayed on a table. The auctioneer would then pick up a gift and would announce that the bidding will start at one dollar and encourage the seniors to bid higher and higher amounts till the bids stop or a certain amount of time has past. You can use a kithcen timer for that if you'd like. Most seniors like it because it's a game of chance and because they are in control of the money and can bid on any gift they'd like.
Seniors who live in facilities usually don't get many chances to cheat on their diets so an ice cream social is always welcome. Make sure it will not seriously harm amyone to have the treat and be prepared to have alternate goodies, if it will.
Sugarless candy, and frozen yogurt are two ideas for alternates. Have two or three flavors of ice cream and a variety of toppings and they can custom order their own sundaes or banana splits.
What goes better with Valentines Day than a romantic candlelit dinner? Light some tapered candles on the center of each table and play romantic dinner music in the background. For dessert you can serve some red velvet cake. All you need to do for this is to make a white or yellow cake and put red food coloring in the batter. Dye some white frosting pink, using just a little red food coloring and you've made your special desert.
You can also include as part of the days activities an old classic romantic movie, complete with some movie snacks. Place some candles around the room so it's not completly dark.
A senior Valentines Day at the mall is a great idea for those seniors who like to go out but don't get much oppurtunity to do so. Lunch in the mall could follow the shopping, and would be a real treat.
Make sure to decorate for your seniors, with banners and plenty of flowers and balloons to get them in the mood and lift their spirits for Valentines Day.
